Changes to the Blog

FYI I have broadened my blog topic to all aspects of Honey Creek Outdoors.  I would like to get all HCO staff members and fans involved with this site.  I'm sure we'll come up with plenty of ideas for material as time moves along, but I figured featuring one HCO staff member per week with Q&A interview and pics would be a fun way to get to know one another!

Also you do NOT need a blog to comment on here so if you're an HCO staff member and are interested in becoming HCO's Weekly Spotlight leave me a comment and I will e-mail you with further details!

I hope everyone is having a fun and successful hunting season, in and out of the tree stand!

The Peak Update!

It's a little after five o'clock and I'm sitting shoulder to shoulder with Brandon in a tree stand we set up not even two hours ago. Brandon whispered, "deer", and my heart rate started to kick up as usual. He used the grunt call a couple times and twigs began to snap. I heard it rustling through the leaves, the crunching noises became louder as the creature came closer and closer.

I saw antlers and immediately turned on the video camera and hit record. I swung the HCO 180 smoothly and quietly right onto my target, making sure I was capturing this buck. I heard Brandon look to see if I was ready and I gave him a nod. That is when a wave of adrenaline completely took me over.

My vision began to tunnel as Brandon pulled back his bow. I didn't even examine the buck, or do any fancy camera work, I just made sure the buck and little red button was displayed on the camera screen.

It all happened too fast. The whoosh of the arrow. Brandon knew it right away, turned around and celebrated. I was trying to follow the buck scamper off, but Brandon's immediate celebration meant we did it. He guaranteed it on the driveway, I recorded it and everything. "I'm going to shoot a big buck, and you're going to video tape it, tonight is the night." I am very new to hunting and videotaping, and if I wouldn't have had the HCO 180 there is no way I would have been calm enough to get such solid footage. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "If I can do it, YOU can do it."

Brandon, Ben, Greg and I got some very good footage and are going to piece together a teaser to sum up our first week of "The Peak". Stay tuned folks!

Wired to Hunt Features The Peak for Video of the Day

Greetings from HCO!

I hope everyone's November is going well so far. Even though we are only four days into it, I'm having an amazing month, and I'd like to thank a few people for the awesome start.

As you may know, wired to hunt has featured HCO's "The Peak TV" trailer ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXuM5ejkX54) as Video of the Day. A big thanks to Mark Kenyon writer for http://www.wiredtohunt.com/ for posting our video and linking HCO's blog to their site.

I also wanted to take the time to thank Honey Creek Outdoors for the opportunities they have given me. I am majoring in sports journalism once I graduate from Kirkwood Community College, and freelancing for HCO has given me some great experience. The coordinator/Brandon's mom is my second mom and a great friend of mine. I wanted to acknowledge her work ethic and customer service we couldn't do it without you!

When I'm not at work, school, or tutoring you are likely to find me near Brandon's house. He and I have been friends since pre-school, but this year we became brothers. It's great to be around him because he always has to be doing something, just like me. He never gives up, especially if you tell him he can't do it, I'm glad some of that rubbed off on me.

October was nearing, and I figured it would be like every other hunting season that I hated- My friends would all go hunting together and I just waited to hear the stories. This season was just a little bit different thanks to Brandon. I am now addicted to videotaping the outdoors (with the one and only HCO 180ยบ) and going hunting. There is nothing in the world like it, it's an entire new world to me. I've never experienced an activity that can be so relaxing, then out of no where your heart can beat harder and faster than ever. There's nothing better for me to write about- The outdoors and competition. So again thanks Brandon, my brother, friend, and partner- Let's rise to our peak!

If I left anyone out let me know, and here's a thank-you in advance.
